Floyd Mayweather Makes a Joke Out of #MeToo Movement

TheSource Feed - Fri, 01/12/2018 - 9:50am

Over the past few months, many victims have come forward with sexual harassment claims. Their brave act gave more victims the courage to speak out as well, which led to the viral movement #MeToo. Apparently boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. had no clue what has been going on. In an interview with Mens Health Magazine, his responses when asked about the movement were a little out of place. Some felt that they were even distasteful and downright disrespectful.

Men’s Health Magazine

“We’re asking a lot of men, in light of the #MeToo movement, how men can grow in 2018.”

“The who?”

After the shocking surprise that Floyd in fact had no idea about the movement, the interviewer made an attempt to explain what it was:

Men’s Health Magazine

“The #MeToo movement

The conversation took a negative turn when Mayweather made a joke on the subject:

“Oh cause when you say ‘me too’ my thing was this: When somebody be like ‘I got a Rolls Royce’, I be like Me Too! When somebody say they got a private jet, I say Me Too. I got two. Me Too!”

After such an awkward moment, the interviewer when into details to further explain what the movement meant. Floyd continued to make light of the situation ending the interview with “ I didn’t know. My Me Too movement from the beginning was whenever somebody said what they have I’m like, me too.

Eventually, Floyd Mayweather got it together and finally gave a decent response,

“I think if everyone, if you’re in an uncomfortable position, you have to pray about it, you know talk about it and I think that, you know sexual harassment, I don’t think it’s cool at all.”

Even the champ fumbles sometimes. Let’s  hope moving forward Mayweather’s publicist makes sure he is more aware about current topics before sending him in a big interview.

Ronda Rousey Could Be In The WWE By The Royal Rumble

TheSource Feed - Fri, 01/12/2018 - 9:40am

In the worst kept WWE secret in years, all signs point to Ronda Rousey leaving MMA  for professional wrestling.

Paul “Triple H” Levesque confirmed to The Post he and the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion dined in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, which was first reported by TMZ.

The meeting comes at a perfect time for Rousey, especially if it points to her being back on WWE programming in some form.

The company will celebrate the 25th anniversary of “Monday Night Raw” on Jan. 22 with shows at Barclays Center and Manhattan Center. That Sunday is also the Royal Rumble pay-per-view at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. It will feature the first women’s Royal Rumble match with 30 participants. Could Rousey get one of those slots?

It would be a great way to bring her into the WWE. Rousey could legitimize the company’s outlook for women wrestling going forward.

Atlanta’s new Mayor Keisha Bottoms is kicking off her first term with a bang after announcing a transition team that will include local rappers, CEOs, and educators.

On Thursday (Jan 11), Bottoms announced the names of the key players who will help her shape the city’s focus and carry out her policy. Among the team are the CEO and Chairman of UPS, the CEO of Delta Airlines Inc., an APS school board member, Senator Jason Carter, Grammy-award winning rapper, actor, entrepreneur and activist Clifford “T.I.” Harris, Michael “Killer Mike Render, artist, activist and businessman, Ron Clark from the Ron Clark Academy and a pastor from the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

“I am grateful to announce this 38-strong transition team. It represents a tremendous amount of diversity and depth, and really the best and the brightest in the city of Atlanta,” Bottoms said.

The group will help Bottoms carry out her platform of affordable housing, overhauling the city hall corruption scandal and improving education. When it came to revealing why she chose the core group for her team, the Atlanta Mayor said she wanted the best and the brightest the city has to offer.

“I really want them to come with fresh ideas, and bring to me their recommendation for best practices for the city of Atlanta. To make sure we attract the best talent in the city and we are forward thinking and not just worried about the issues we are facing today but build a team that can project out for many years in the city.”

In other T.I. news, the father, and CEO has supported Diddy‘s quest to own the NFL team, Carolina Panthers, but when it comes to being a part of the investment team, Tip says he’ll pass.

In an interview with TMZ, the Family Hustle star said the investment doesn’t outweigh the headache for him.

“I don’t wanna spend a bunch of money on something that I can’t do what I want, when I want,” T.I. said. “If I spend tens of millions or hundreds of millions, I want full rein and jurisdiction over everything … you can’t do that with the NFL.”

Raekwon Releases Yet Another Single ‘It’s A Shame’

TheSource Feed - Fri, 01/12/2018 - 7:53am

Chefs are always in the kitchen, right?

We are just two weeks into 2018 and Wu-Tang Clan wordsmith, Raekwon seems to be on a roll with the release of melodies. Last week, he dropped two singles, “The Sky” and “The Biz”-where he sampled the great Biz Markie, and this week he dropped yet another single, “It’s A Shame.” That marks three tracks The Purple Tape emcee has dropped so far, in the wee weeks of the new year.

Released Jan. 11, one day before his birthday (and on that note, we wish Raekwon The Chef a very sincere happy birthday today, Jan. 12!), “It’s A Shame” samples Detroit rhythm and blues legends The Spinners 1970 hit version of the song thanks to the mastering deeds of RoadsArt.

Clearly, this is a Staten Chef track, with mentions of rolling with fellow Wu brother Cappadonna, profiling a typical day in the life of the hip-hop OG. The instrumental offers fair signals of funk, which The Spinners sample is solely responsible for, with its bouncy tempo and lead vocals.

It’s pretty obvious Rae has something in store for this year. He is clearly following some type of strategic measure, with his recent release of abrupt tracks. Last year, he released his seventh studio album The Wild, a gem that overall reflects on his stance as a hip-hop icon after over two decades of verbal exploit, which gained a highly generous acclaim by the masses. Let’s remain on standby for the chef’s next meal. Listen to his latest track “It’s A Shame,” below.

Rapsody and Leikeli47 Set To Pay Tribute To Missy Elliott At Essence ‘Black Women In Music’

TheSource Feed - Fri, 01/12/2018 - 6:50am

North Carolina’s own, Rapsody will take the stage with multi-talent Leikeli47 to perform a tribute in honor of hip-hop icon Missy Elliott at the 2018 Essence ‘Black Women in Music’ celebration. The event is set to take place on Jan. 25 in New York City at Highline Ballroom.

For the past nine years,  Essence ‘Black Women in Music’ acknowledges the accomplishments of women who have proven influential ground in their niches specifically during the week of the Grammy Awards.

The Misdemeanor set a new principle for the outlook of black women in music, starting from her 1997 solo debut Supa Dupa Fly. The visuals to the album’s hit singles “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” and “Sock It 2 Me” set in stone the famed abstract perception of Missy’s creativity. She was highly instrumental in curating the works of the late Aaliyah as a noted songwriter. Missy’s sense of nonconformity is notably influential in the development of hip-hop, R&B, and pop music in the millennium, especially with her hand in the chart hitting successes of elites such as Whitney HoustonMariah Carey, BeyoncéMary J. Blige and several more class-acts.

Rapsody, who is currently signed to 9th Wonder’s Jamla Records and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, has been nominated for two Grammy awards, Best Rap Album-thanks to her sophomore debut Lalia’s Wisdom and Best Rap Song, “Sassy.”

Leikeli47 is a Bedstuy, Brooklyn breed rapper who gained kudos from Brooklyn legend Jay-Z after her song “F*** the Summer Up” made number one on his Tidal playlist back in 2015. She is a multi-talent, who also pursuits directing and producing hones a signature presence of anonymity with the use of a face mask.

Excited to join @essence and @Leikeli47 in honoring the ICON and legend, @missymisdemeanorelliott at this year’s Essence Black Women in Music Tribute! You deserve all the ????!! #ThankYouMissy, love…..the culture!

‘Black Panther’ Sells More Advanced Tickets Than Any Other Marvel Movie

TheSource Feed - Thu, 01/11/2018 - 1:03pm

It’s looking like Marvel‘s Black Panther is shaping up to be a huge box office success. Tickets for the Ryan Coogler-directed film went on sale on Monday following the new trailer that was released and it has already outsold all of the previous MCU movie advance ticket sales!

Black Panther set a record selling more advance tickets in its first 24 hours than any previous Marvel Studios movie, which was previously held by Captain America: Civil War. Fandango managing editor Erik Davis made the announcement on Twitter today:

Big news this morning – #BlackPanther sold more advance tickets on @Fandango in its first 24 hours than any other MCU movie, besting previous record holder Captain America: Civil War. Long live the King! pic.twitter.com/JL1c28AgWm

— ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) January 10, 2018

Deadline is reporting that non-Disney estimates say that Black Panther will have a $80-$85 million opening, and may possibly hit the $100 million-plus mark. I personally think it could do much better than that. Captain America: Civil War had a $179 million opening in 2016. If Black Panther is already tracking better in pre-sales, does that mean it will at least have just as big of an opening as Civil War? After all, it will be the first big highly anticipated movie released in 2018. I have no idea, so we’ll just have to wait and see. It would be cool to see it explode at the box-office, though!

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and, returning from Avengers: Age of Ultron, Andy Serkis.

The movie will be released in theaters on February 16th, 2018.

On this date in 1995, the head of the Wu’s “Voltron” released his first solo LP

“We form like Voltron and GZA happens to be the head.” -Method Man

After appearing as the closer on the Wu Tang’s premiere single “Protect Ya Neck” and dropping his own solo joint “Clan In The Front” on WTC’s clasic Enter The 36 Chambers LP, The Genius, who changed his name to the GZA after the formation of the Wu Tang Clan in 1992, fulfilled the expectations of a solo album with Liquid Swords, which was released 20 years ago today.

With in-house album cover art of a war-torn chessboard from Wu Tang DJ/Producer Allah Mathematics along with Milestone Media creative director Denys Cowan and released on Geffen Records, the debut album of one of WTC’s founders was recorded i nRZA’s basement, as was the rest of the early Wu projects including Meth’s Tical and OB4CL. It also featured all of the original members as well as introduced some of the supporting members of the Killa Bees including Killah Priest, Dreddy Krueger and Allah Life, whos sung the hook on “Cold World”. Other smash singles from this album include “Labels”, “4th Chamber”, “I Gotcha Back” and the timeless title track.

Salute to the entire WTC for this two decade old, Four Mic classic that sounds beter than most Hip Hop that come out last month! Peace!

Watch Cassie’s Video for Kaytranada produced “Don’t Play It Safe”

TheSource Feed - Thu, 01/11/2018 - 12:13pm

Nothing is more amazing than seeing Cassie being Cassie and totally owning her best angles on the camera. Recently she released a song titled “Don’t Play It Safe” with Montréal producer Kaytranada. Now the smooth number gets a video treatment.

The video captures Cassie moving elegantly slow-mo in illustrious settings going from top floor to the pool-side where she is accompanied by several different types of wild life; birds, a tiger, jellyfish and more.

As always Cassie doesn’t lack in proving her awesome fashion sense. To balance her sassier looks, she confidently struts in a long fur coat as she walks through the city at night in her boots. Switching between that to rocking looser fitting denim with a cropped zip-up jacket and over-sized hoops. Keeping her looks minimal but classy with a sprinkle of tomboy. At which point you forget which one is better the song or the video. Courtesy of Montreal-based producer Kaytranada whose midas touch adds another level of awesomeness to the vibe.

The power went out Wednesday in two halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center during CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics show.

At 11:15 a.m. local time on the second day of CES, power cut out in the Central and South Halls of the center. The Consumer Technology Association, which runs the event, said they are “working hard to resolve” the issue.

Some companies latched onto the outage as an advertising opportunity. Intel tweeted a photo of the darkened convention center with the caption, “Introducing Blackout: The biggest thing to hit CES 2018 since 5G.”

“Sell Drugsz” Rapper Montana Millz Gets 3 Years For Heroin Trafficking

TheSource Feed - Thu, 01/11/2018 - 10:49am

A Rhode Island rapper whose songs include “Sell Drugsz” and “Feds Watching” was sentenced this week to three years in federal prison for trafficking heroin and fentanyl.

Michael Persaud, aka “Montana Millz,” 30, of Johnston, pleaded guilty in October to five counts of distribution of fentanyl and one count each of possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and distribution of heroin.

Prosecutors said he was arrested following a 4-1/2 month investigation during which an undercover East Providence police detective arranged for several purchases of heroin and fentanyl from Persaud, totaling nearly 22 grams of fentanyl and 2 grams of heroin.

In several instances, prosecutors said Persaud used other people to assist in the delivery of the drugs. On at least two occasions, he was driven by his girlfriend and mother of three of his children to deliver fentanyl to the undercover detective.

Police had been watching Persaud for several months before arresting him early this year. They had not known of his stage name or drug-referencing songs prior to the case, said Jim Martin, a spokesman for federal prosecutors in Providence.

In a court filing seeking a lenient sentence, Persaud’s lawyers cited his music career as evidence of his work ethic, without referencing “Sell Drugsz” or “Feds Watching.”

“Persaud has shown an ability and a proclivity to work at legitimate jobs throughout his life and knows the value of hard work and self-sufficiency,” his attorneys wrote.

Producer Sonny Digital Gives His Take On Labels Paying Producers

TheSource Feed - Wed, 01/10/2018 - 10:57pm

So far, 2018 has seen its fair share of coverage regarding the lack of appropriate pay for hip hop producers. Beatsmith’s such as DJ Mustard, TM88 and J.U.S.T.I.C.E League have helped drive the conversation forward.  Thus, the awareness of streaming-the positive and the negative impact, has been a lead conversation for music fans.

Popular hip hop producer Sonny Digital has cut his teeth producing for the likes of Future, 21 Savage and 2 Chainz. With his expertise in working with the big wigs of rap, his knowledge and experience in music is essential. Sonny shared those exact experiences with music magazine The FADER, including an interesting story on his “Birthday Song” production for 2 Chainz.

“For instance, ‘Birthday Song’ with 2 Chainz and Kanye West — that song had my tag in it at the beginning, and they ended up taking it out because of how the song started,” Digital said of a specific instance from early-on in his career. “I felt like, Man, that’s the only thing I had that was identifying me on there, and y’all trying to take it away from me. I felt like that shouldn’t even have been a conversation if it was the same mutual respect between the artist and the producer. Fast forward to now — people are dying for the tags to be on their shit. That’s kind of what got me to the point I’m at today.”

The Atlantic Records/producer pay controversy was the initial starter of this conversation. Producer E. Dan stated last week that Atlantic purposefully label albums to “commercial mixtapes” to avoid paying producers what they would compensate them for an album. Sonny chimed in on that topic, adding in his own perspective

What I saw [online that day was], “Atlantic call albums mixtapes to lower the fees to pay producers.” I’m like OK, cool. I don’t know why y’all are talking about Atlantic for, because every label does this shit? Every label puts out a mixtape that ends up on Apple Music or Spotify, everywhere except Live Mixtapes or DatPiff or Soundcloud. Everybody that just came out with a “mixtape,” it coincidentally always ends up on iTunes. Anything on iTunes is basically an album because you have to pay for it.”

Sonny Digital also reflected on the time in which he worked on Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv Is Rage. The project started off as strictly a mixtape. But the record soon ended up for purchase on iTunes.

The same situation happened to me before with Atlantic, with Lil Uzi Vert, when he did the Luv Is Rage mixtape early on in his career. When that project came out, it was all love, I wasn’t looking to make no money, I was just here to support. When it went up on iTunes though, I was like, Ok, someone’s getting paid now.

With the record now being sold, Sonny elaborated on how he had to be careful stepping to Atlantic. Uzi around this time was a new artist, so Sonny understood the potential gray area he may have stepped in.

When I went into the situation, I wasn’t planning on making money because, remember, that project came out as a free mixtape. I fucked with him too so that would defeat the purpose of being involved in the first place. When Atlantic hit me back, they said we only have $1000, $1500 to give you, so I was like Fuck it. After they paid me that, they recouped that money back [on sales]. If your producer advance is low, it will be easier for them to recoup that money and you’ll start making royalties quicker.

Harvey Weinstein Slapped At A Resort In Arizona

What did the five fingers say to the face?

Well, that’s what a drunken restaurant goer did to disgraced film director Harvey Weinstein in a Scottsdale, Arizona eatery.

Weinstein on Tuesday evening was dining at a restaurant called Elements in Scottsdale, Arizona, when he was approached by a man identified by the publication only as “Steve.”

The two men sat and talked at Weinstein’s table for a time, but as Weinstein got up to leave the restaurant, “Steve” followed him and slapped him twice in the face while repeatedly calling him a “piece of sh*t.”
